Grab-bag encore! Quite a bit of LMM goodness, because I can't help myself. And the pastel colours weren't intentional, at first ... especially not with the rather bittersweet Pat quotes. I apologize in advance for the loooong length of my credits: I didn't really mean to ramble that much.

Credits:
1-2. Anne of the Island. My favourite Anne book. The quote's one of Matthew's, from Anne of Green Gables, but I thought it was applicable here. And this was sort of a brighter reimagining of one of my earlier icons. I haven't decided if I like it better, though.
3. Rilla of Ingleside. From a German copy, I believe. (Her ears look a little big, don't you think?)
4. Jane of Lantern Hill. That's Lantern Hill, down in the bottom-left corner. And this book ranks among my favourites of LMM's works, because it's simple and sweet.
5-7. Emily of New Moon. #5 is from a Japanese copy, and while I think it's pretty, Emily's hair colour is wrong. And look at the Wind Woman in #7! She makes up for the ugly Emily present in that one. (Believe me, she's plain. You can't see her outfit.)
8-9. Emily Climbs. Again, the cool Japanese cover gave Emily the wrong hair colour. I cropped most of Emily's face out of #9 because the illustrated girl was beginning to scare me a little.
10. Emily's Quest. Emily appears to be 40 years old, strangely. And the bright flower bar on the side is from the actual book - can you believe it?
11. The Blue Castle. I giggled when I saw this one. The book is about a woman's search for independence and her true self, and what do they put on the cover? Valancy's dream castle, which is nowhere near the most important aspect of the book. Although it's better than the current Bantam cover, which makes it look like a sappy romance novel.
12. Kilmeny of the Orchard. Rather short and unrealistic, in my opinion. (Which is greatly skewed, often.) And in this cover, Kilmeny's braid nearly reaches her knees. (!!!)
13. Magic for Marigold. I really hate this book, for I have yet to be able to finish it. Marigold just doesn't engage me at all. But the old covers are generally lovely, and the colours in this one were brilliant.
14. The Story Girl. Is it just me, or is their clothing anachronistic to when the novel was set?
15-16. Pat of Silver Bush. Favourite covers! And despite #15 messing up Pat's hair (ginger and frizzy, wasn't it?), it has her brown skin down pat. Hee. Pun not intended. Plus, it's just cute.
17-18. Mistress Pat. I cropped most of Pat's face out of #17 because that cover seriously disturbed me. (She looked demonic.) And isn't it odd that both covers depict a smiling Pat, when she spends most of the book upset over the changes in her life? *curious*
19-28. Quotations from Pat of Silver Bush and Mistress Pat by L.M. Montgomery. Not exactly my favourite quotes here, just the ones that touched me the most. Pat said #19, 22, 26-28, Judy Plum said #20 and #21, and Jingle/Hilary said #23-25. *hugs Jingle*
29-31. Doctor Who. All of these were entered in Challenge 20 at
tardis_icons. #29 tied for best use of screencap (the little text reads "intergalactic pretty boy," because it's SO TRUE), and #31 was named Best Jack icon and tied for second place.
32. A lovely watercolour of Merope Gaunt by BloodyMary - aka,
envielestrange, now that she has a LJ. I've used this picture before for icons and layouts, but I had to use it again, because ... it's exquisite. The lightness, and the way Mary made Merope appear wistful and almost pretty in the sunlight. If I could steal this picture and keep it all to myself, I would.
33-34. Narnia. Both were entered in the first two rounds of
narnia_lims. And I'm still in! Hurrah! With no votes for either one, go me. :p
35-36. Pride and Prejudice: A Latter-Day Comedy and Bride & Prejudice. Both were entered in the "Modern Lizzy Bennets" theme at
austen_awards. I really have no idea why I chose to crop #36 in that manner - I think it was an (unsuccessful) revolt against the way faces are usually oriented on icons.

Date: 2007-02-27 10:15 pm (UTC)Thank you so much for putting them up! They were so interesting to compare with some of the covers that I have - I especially love Anne's giant butt bow/bustle in the more cartoonish Anne of the Island cover. ;p
