Explanation:
Happy September equinox! Here's a mix to remind you of falling leaves, fuzzy sweaters, crackling fires, and snow-blanketed trees.

Let Winterlight Come - An Autumn & Winter Mix:
01. Wilco - Muzzle of Bees
And the sun gets passed from tree to tree
Silently, and back to me
With the breeze blown through
Pushed up against the sea
Finally back to me
02. Yo La Tengo - Autumn Sweater
We could slip away, wouldn't that be better
Me with nothing to say, and you in your autumn sweater
03. The Lucksmiths - Smokers in Love
Happy and hungover on the first day of October
Struggling to remember the last night of September
04. The Shins - Young Pilgrims
A cold and wet November dawn
And there are no barking sparrows
Just emptiness to dwell upon.
05. Vienna Teng - Drought
Summer move forward and stitch me the fabric of fall
Wrap life in the brilliance of death to humble us all
06. Ours - Leaves
The leaves are falling
Turning over and over the leaves are turning over
Getting colder and colder, the leaves are turning over
07-09. Vivaldi - Autumn I-III
(Because you can't have a seasonal mix without including "The Four Seasons." Vivaldi captures the feeling of autumn perfectly in these three movements - especially the rich, mellow tones.)
10. Wintersleep - Migration
we'll write our words in sand
we'll hum our hearts to rest
11. Anita Humes - Don't Fight It
Every place you go, I'm going to be there
Doesn't matter where it may be
12. Eels - Woman Driving Man Sleeping
Woman driving, man sleeping
With a suitcase on the rack
White lines shooting by
On the pavement like the sky
Looking straight ahead into the black
13. David Berkeley - Fire Sign
Here is a photograph, what do you see? There's nothing there but me.
Oh, in the aftermath, it's hard to breath and harder to believe.
14-16. Vivaldi - Winter I-III
(Ditto to what I said above. And can't you hear the howl of the wind and the rustling of bare branches in these movements?)
17. Tori Amos - Winter
I get a little warm in my heart
When I think of winter
I put my hand in my father's glove
18. Allison Crowe - In the Bleak Midwinter
In the bleak midwinter, frost wind made moan,
Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone;
Snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,
In the bleak midwinter, long ago.
19. Bon Iver - Blood Bank
Then the snow started falling
We were stuck out in your car
20. Ruth Moody - Winter Waltz
Winter lies thick
on our rooftops and streets
A wasteland of white
has buried us deep
21. Sixpence None The Richer - A Million Parachutes
I'll put on some records
And wait for the light
Under those million parachutes
Now a blanket of white.

Notes:
--For Andrew. :)
--Originally compiled Fall 2005, but spruced up with new cover art and tweaked winter songs.
--Songs 01-09 are Definitely Autumn, songs 10-13 are for that strange in-between seasons period, and songs 14-21 are Quintessentially Winter.
Enjoy!

Date: 2011-09-26 05:13 am (UTC)I have a few songs for a spring & summer mix, but nothing finalized yet, sadly.
I have a slightly wintry mix (for The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder) here (http://granias.livejournal.com/19891.html) as well.
