Turn In Your Star - An Expectant Mix for "The Sweet Far Thing"
Explanation:
The Sweet Far Thing, the final volume of Libba Bray's Victorian fantasy trilogy, hits bookshelves on December 26, 2007. And what do I offer to bridge the six months between now and the release date? A totally unnecessary mix.
If you're unfamiliar with Libba Bray's books, I encourage you to check out my two part mix for A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels from last year. One of my favourites that I've compiled, and recently reuploaded for your listening pleasure.
Turn In Your Star - An Expectant Mix for "The Sweet Far Thing"
01. Getretener Tanz (Op. 72 No. 6) from Slåtter - Edvard Grieg
The Slåtter Op. 72, composed by Grieg in 1902, are free transcriptions of Norwegian peasant dances for the piano. The results are very sensual - if a bit moody.
02. Had a Dream - Bird York

03. Wind in the Wires - Patrick Wolf
But see her waters break
Rain falling to the sea
Into a granite wave
04. Come Here Boy - Imogen Heap

07. Raga Bhupali - Shiv Kumar, Hariprasad, Brij
A raga refers to melodic modes used in Indian classical music - a framework that can be used to compose or improvise melodies, allowing for endless variation within the set of notes. Some Hindustani ragas are prescribed a time of day or a season, and Raga Bhupali is usually associated with early night.
08. If You Wear That Velvet Dress - U2
(Possibly the sexiest song U2 has ever recorded.)
09. Climbing Up the Walls - Sarah Slean
I am the key to the lock in your house, that keeps your toys in the basement
And if you get too far inside, you'll only see my reflection
10. Lightblinde - Charlotte Martin
Late at night we all run out
Demons, saints must brawl
11. In Two (The Lament) - Jennifer Knapp
Have mercy on me, I'm a girl
Though I'm cruel and you cry
I won't shiver 'cause I how to break a man in two
12. Hope - The Dirty Three

13. Your Ever Changing Mood - Summer at Shatter Creek

15. Black Heart Rodeo - Tom McRae
And I taste of ashes over fire long since gone
And I want to be around to see who lost and then who won
16. Fading Lights Are Fading - Set Fire to Flames

17. Rose - Maximilian Hecker

Heavy rainfalls and fragile guidance inside me

--Very simplistic cover art. The front cover depicts a Gemma-like redhead, with some faint stars in the background, and the rose and cricket ball represent my two favourite characters. (You know who!)
--Also, the rose (as well as the final song) are an annoyingly blatant reference to "The Rose of Battle" by W.B. Yeats. The Sweet Far Thing is derived from a line in the poem.
--"Turn in your star" is from Tom McRae's "Black Heart Rodeo." I just realized that I didn't cite that particular line in the snippet above. Ooops.
--So basically, I want romantic tension and fights and more romantic tension and the revelation of those pesky Order/Rakshana secrets and a taste of India.
--In October, expect a mix more along the lines of "Perfect Weapon" to cover the final book.
--And don't forget: December 26, 2007!
